Winning NCC 15th Anniversary Cake

Michigan Village Collectors produce cake that had to be eaten to be believed.

By Bob Obenland

Last year we celebrated the NCC's 15th Anniversary with a number of activities and prizes for the Member Clubs with one collector and guest attending the Department 56 Holiday tour. The final year's activity was to award the prizes for the 15th Anniversary cake contest. Earlier in the year we wanted to give the clubs help with meeting refreshments and sent each club $25 for a cake for one of their meetings. We added the idea of a NCC 15th Anniversary cake contest with little idea that so many clubs would work so hard on a cake. A total of 47 clubs sent in pictures of their cakes. It was hard to pick the winners, but the entry from the Village Collectors of Michigan came in first with a cake of the NCC Collector's Club House. A number of clubs used this house on their cake and at first I thought that was what they did until I saw one of their pictures with half of the cake missing. Second place went to a joint project by the members of the cyber club Our 56 Club. There were no calories in their cake. The Prairie Villagers took third place with a 15-layer cake, one for each year, with a chocolate covered house on the first layer. We want to thank all those clubs that entered the contest. You can view all the cakes by clicking on this link......

CAKES

The Village Collectors of Michigan pose with their prize-winning cake before they get ready to eat the "just desserts" of their labor. Although the cake looked too good to eat, the club found the NCC Collectors Cake House was as delicious as it looked.
Left: It was not until the judges saw the picture of the eaten cake that they realized the whole cake was an actual copy of the NCC Collectors Club House.
