The best session I attended was given by Brian Young. Brian moved to the US from England many years ago but his accent would make you think you are talking to someone in London. He gave a talk on London in Dickens time and since. He had wonderful stories to tell about growing up in London and what it was like being there during the Blitzkrieg. He discussed the different social classes in London at Dicken’s time and what the food and holidays were like. I also attended a session that was called “Presidents Panel. This was a facilitated discussion of club presidents about the challenges of keeping a club going these days. Membership recruitment and activities for meetings were discussed. It seems like we are not alone in this struggle!

Now as I have said before Gatherings are not all just work, there is plenty of fun as well. On Friday night there were games including Village Bingo, Blackjack and Jeopardy. The proceeds from the tickets for the event went to the gathering’s chosen charity, “Habitat for Humanity”. Wanda and I spent a good amount of time playing Bingo. I enjoyed the caller. His way of getting the game started was to yell “Let’s kick this pig! (Must be a Texan thing, I tried to use this at work and I didn’t get the desired effect!). I did win a house during Bingo but Wanda in keeping with her tradition walked away empty handed.

On Saturday night we had the main social event, the “Cruising through the Villages” banquet. This event was great fun. The speaker was dinner was Steve Ruelle, new President for Department 56. He talked mainly about his background and how his career
