Mike Goode Nominee - Office of NCC Vice President
Mike has an extensive history of committee and organizational work. His
experience of teaching in the elementary classroom planted an early seed
in the art of planning and organizing. This talent was recognized as he
soon became a district curriculum coordinator, a position in which he
organized and planned staff development and training sessions for over
300 classroom teachers. Mike’s ability to lead and mobilize individuals
brought him to the campus level as an elementary school principal and
later he was asked to open a new elementary campus of over 800 students.
Mike ended thirty years in education by spending the final eight years
as Director of Human Resources. His HR experience provided him with
additional opportunities to use his skills and knowledge, including the
planning and development of materials for the teacher recruitment
program as well as promotional materials for the school district which
were distributed nationwide. Mike’s career in education was highlighted
by being selected Teacher of the Year and School Administrator of the
Year in two separate school districts.
Mike’s leadership abilities did not end with his retirement. Those
skills were transferred to his club membership in two collectors clubs (Cowtown
Villagers and The Nifty Fifty Sixers). He has served as President and
Vice President of Ft. Worth’s Cowtown Villagers and Vice President and
Secretary of Hurst’s Nifty Fifty Sixers. The office of vice president in
both clubs required Mike to plan programs for a total of four years.
Some of the programs he planned included combined club trips for
out-of-state Christmas shopping, designing lighted houses, and greeting
incoming troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. Additionally, he continues to
organize and plan the Holiday Tour of Homes for both clubs.
Having been a collector since 1984, Mike has been a familiar face at the
Texas and Region 8 Roundups. He has attended every Roundup since 1996
and most nationwide gatherings since 2000. Serving on the planning
committees for the 2005, 2007, and 2009 Region 8 Roundups continues to
renew his passion for collecting and displaying lighted houses.
Mike and his wife Trisha have twice been featured in the Village
D-Lights Magazine. In 2006 they won the Department 56 Holiday Tour Grand
Prize to Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
The NCC has long been the fiber that unites collectors and collectors
clubs nationwide. As a member of the board, it would be his privilege to
work and make that fiber even stronger using his energy and skills of
careful planning and organizing to continue the work of the NCC.
Additionally, he would work to excite and recruit new collectors to
share in the fellowship of the NCC.
I have known Mike for thirty years as friend, fellow teacher, club
member and leader. When my husband and I go to gatherings, there he is
taking in all the ideas and planning how to use them in his displays. He
is meticulous as he incorporates these ideas. His seminars are creative
and energizing, and you can attend one at the Region 8 Roundup! Why does
he take the time and effort to do a super job? Because he loves to see a
task done well. If you want a NCC Vice President who will make things
happen, you need Mike.
