Nomination Endorsement
I am the Department 56 rep, covering Illinois, Indiana and southwestern
Michigan. It is with great pleasure that I write you to recommend Kirk
Wyllie for the position of Vice-President of the NCC. In May of 2008,
after several years with Christopher Radko, I left to accept a position
with Department 56. Needless to say, learning the line, the history of
the Villages, the names of new introductions, identifying older pieces
and accessories, meeting all the collectors in the clubs and introducing
the January and midyear introductions was, to be blunt, overwhelming.
When I started in May, I went on the road to introduce midyear ’08. I
went to the Collector’s Clubs and, quite nervously, did the best I could
do on limited experience.
By the grace of God, I met Kirk Wyllie at an autumn, 2008, open house
that was being held at Suzie’s Hallmark in Homewood, IL. The Department
56 visual, Jill, was there to demonstrate some of the ‘tricks of the
trade.’ Kirk was to demonstrate how to build a village display that
would fit on a coffee table, using eight Dickens village pieces,
innumerable accessories and trees. He was doing it out of the kindness
of his heart and his love for the Villages. He was a huge hit. He
engaged the customers with his humor, knowledge, and obvious passion for
displaying villages in the best possible light. He is truly gifted. As
an added bonus, his display was wonderful. Kirk stayed for a long time
to make sure he answered every question posed by the audience. The
owners of the store were so impressed that they have asked to repeat his
performance this year. Actually, I have had several requests from
customers that heard about Kirk from some of the folks that attended the
demonstration at Suzie’s.
After the open house, Kirk graciously gave me his contact information
and offered to assist me through the learning curve of my new position.
I took him up on his offer and he was my walking encyclopedia of all
things Village. He attended two different collector’s club meetings to
help me through the introduction of the January, 2009 line. He added
tidbits of information that only a person who truly knew the history of
the line could add. He has been patient, kind and, without question, my
own personal source of knowledge.
I believe that Kirk Wyllie would be a great asset to the NCC. He is a
remarkable man and I feel honored to know him.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Sheila
