Regarding: Vice Presidential Nomination and Candidacy
Date: 26 August 2009
Warmest regards from the beautiful State of Illinois and the wonderful
Chicagoland area.
I am honored to be a nominee and candidate for the Vice President
position with the NCC. What seems to be a natural progression of my deep
commitment and involvement in the collecting and advancement of
Department 56 Villages is an exciting opportunity.
I started collecting Dickens’ Village a little over 15 years ago with my
folks. My desire for the knowledge, experience and exchange of
information and ideas has been never ending since then. I myself, in
addition to the Dickens’ Village, include collecting the Christmas Lane
series, the Historical Architectural series, the Easter and Valentine’s
Day buildings, from the Original Snow Village, and miscellaneous Chicago
related pieces from, primarily, the Christmas in the City collection.
One of my continued passions in the pursuit of collecting is the
displaying of my Villages. I have won a number of awards at Gatherings
for my displays. I am in continued search of new ideas, techniques and
materials to use in my displays and am constantly willing, able and
wanting to share these new ideas with others. I have always openly
shared my findings at different Club meetings, at different retail
locations in the Chicago area, such as Just Ducky, European Imports and
Suzie’s Hallmark. At these locations, typically I have conducted a
number of classes and seminars to share the ideas I have found, both the
good and the bad, and to encourage others that their displays can be as
good as they want them to be.
As for my involvement with other Department 56 collector Clubs, well,
there is a little in that area too. I am the Past President of the Windy
City 56ers, as well a previous Vice President of this Club. I have been
a member since nearly 2002. I have been an overly active member of the
Ducky 56ers for over 10 years now. In the Wacky Willagers, not only am I
a member, but have conducted a number of presentations for this group.
Finally, I was the Co-Chair of both the 2006 and 2004 Gatherings in
Chicago and involved in the 2002 Gathering in Champaign, Illinois. In
addition, you might have seen me running around volunteering at a few
other Gatherings around the country.
Outside of the Village world, I do have a real job that has assisted
well in the preparation of this position. In the ‘real-world’ I am in
the construction management and real estate development profession. On a
daily basis my day includes negotiation of contracts, conflict
resolution and problem solving. Balancing the needs and desires of the
contractor, architect, owner, tenant and Village officials is one of the
many challenges daily. Presenting to potential clients, Village
officials or perspective tenants are common events and one of my
stronger suites.
I feel that my passion for collecting and my professional experience
will be a big asset to the NCC. My ability to find the common ground and
to excite the people around me can be part of the continued growth of
the NCC, expansion of Clubs around the country, and a solid foundation
for the emergence from the stall in the collecting world we now find
ourselves in.
In conclusion, I look forward to the opportunity to work with the
existing Executive Board to continue the tasks that they have started. I
ask for your generous support for my candidacy for the Vice President of
the NCC.
As we say in Chicago… “ Vote Early and Vote Often!”
All the best and happy collecting.
